I couldn’t think of any great thing to make my special day memorable. So, I decided to have a backpacking trip in Bohol before I celebrate my birthday with friends. If you have been following my blog, you’ve seen me traveling in Bohol most of of time. Perhaps because I have never run out of places to see and discover in the amazing Island of Bohol. My first visit in Bohol was the year 2013, and from that year forward – I’d ended up visiting this Island almost every year. That being said, you could tell that I’m really in love with this Island.
So, during my birthday backpacking in Bohol. I had an amazing time where I get to explore the town of Alicia, Candijay, Anda, Dimiao and Loon Bohol. I know that 3 days of exploring these towns might be tiring, but it is fulfilling and has given me a chance to commune with mother nature.
This is far from the usual trip where I usually set foot in Tagbilaran City first as my entry point. This time, my ticket was from Cebu City bound for Tubigon, Bohol. Perhaps because my adventure route at that time was started in Tubigon – Alicia – Candijay – Anda – Dimiao – Loon. Yes, I know this is a long trip, but this is what I love about backpacking. You get to explore each town at your own pace.
I took an early boat trip from Cebu bound for Tubigon, Bohol Via Fast Cat at 1:30 AM. I wasn’t given a chance to sleep that time. The boat was supposed to leave by 1:30 AM, but because of unforeseen technical problem, the boat departed by 3:00 AM, which made my schedule fell apart. But still, I arrived in the Tubigon port, safe and sound at around by 5:00 AM. And so, I immediately travel to the town of Alicia, which is the first town that I would explore that day.
So, with this blog post, I will highlight all the places I’ve explored chronologically. Well, if you think this itinerary would fit in your own pace and backpacking style, then you can follow my itinerary. And I hope this would help you plan your trip, since this blog post includes travel guide, itinerary and budget.
The Town of Alicia – Visiting The Alicia Panoramic Park or also known as Binabaje Hills
The Alicia Panoramic Park or also known as Binabaje Hills is a must visit tourist spot if you happen to visit Bohol. It stands at the height of 400 Meters Above Sea Level (MASL), which earns it a friendly mountain, especially for those that are not really into mountain climbing. Trekking to its summit is only around 1-2 hours, depending on your pace. Some experienced mountain climbers can actually go up this mountain in less than an hour.
Here’s your complete guide to The Alicia Panoramic Park – Binabaje Hills: The Unassuming Innate Beauty of Rolling Hills In Alicia, Bohol.
The Town of Candijay, Bohol – Visiting the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces, Can-Umantad Falls and Canawa Cold Spring.
Then, after exploring the town of Alicia where I get to climb the panoramic view of Binabaje Hills; we are heading to another town in Bohol, which boast an amazing waterfall, mysterious cold spring and a beautiful rice terraces.
Candijay, Bohol has always been out from the usual itinerary that most travelers take in. And this town often disregarded by many, but it owns hidden treasures that will surely leave you in awe when you traipse your feet to its innate beauty.
Cadapdapan Rice Terraces
Cadapdapan Rice Terraces of Bohol might not be as magnificent as those that are in Cordillerras, but you will still appreciate its innate beauty because these are being made with love and respect as part of Boholano’s culture. But, of all the Rice Terraces I’ve seen around the Island of Bohol. Perchance, the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces are the star attractions among them all.
Can-umantad Falls has been recognized as the most iconic natural attractions in Candijay, Bohol. This waterfall was also distinguished as the tallest waterfalls in the entire Island of Bohol. Proudly standing at the height of 60 feet and looks majestic at its own time when the rain pour.
Canawa Cold Spring
Canawa Cold Spring is the natural gem that Candijay, Bohol can be really be proud of. The name is from the local term, “Cawa” which means a “Pan”. Truly, when you come close to this spring, it really looks like a perfect shape of a pan. And this where the “Canawa Cold Spring” being called. A lot of locals have said that they have tried to really swim deep down, but no one has ever touched the bottom of the spring. And even the source of the water remains a big doubt for many, since it has not yet been discovered where the cold spring really come from
The Town of Anda, Bohol – Visiting Their Famous Cabagnow Cave Pool, Combento Cave Pool And Quinale Beach.
I’ve been planning to visit Anda, since I found out about it from a friend about 3 years ago. Merely, I always didn’t have a leisure time to do it because of my busy schedule. Thus, I was happy to traipse my feet here during my backpacking trip around Bohol. I know that there’s so much to discover here, and staying here for a day or two is not enough. So, probably I’ll go back here soon, if my schedule permits it.
Quinale Beach in Anda has been fanning its name for owning a long stretch of white sand with turquoise waters, and a sandy bed. Most people consider this beach as the finest you could find in Bohol and perhaps in the country, matching that of the famous Boracay and other finest white beach in the Philippines.
Cabagnow Cave Pool
One of the stunning cave pools that you can find in Anda, Bohol is the famous and stunning Cabagnow Cave Pool. The water is so clear that swimming in it is like floating in space. Additionally, Cabagnow Cave Pool or locally known as Kabagno Cave Pool has an estimated deep of about 20-25 feet. That being said, this cave pool is enough to swim and enjoy its clear water. And leaping out from the cliff has an estimated height of about 15-18 feet, which is enough to make your knees shaking in fear. It is peacefully located in Sitio Fatima, Bacong Anda, Bohol.
Combento Cave Pool
The Combento Cave Pool doesn’t have spacious pool, but when you drench your body in its water, you’ll surely love it. If Cabagnow Cave Pool is deep enough to swim, Combento Cave Pool is not that deep, it’s like 4 to 5 feet deep, which is scarcely enough to soak your body. When I get inside, I felt like I was owning a private natural pool, it was serene, and perfect for the kind of adventure I always love to experience. It was a bit dark inside, and the only light that provides the whole cave pool is the natural light that passes through the entrance of Combento Cave Pool.
The Town Of Dimiao – Visiting The Stunning Pahangog Twin Falls And Ingkumhan Falls.
The town of Dimiao is not that known to many tourists. Simply, this town has so much to offer. In fact, they hold around three waterfalls, namely Pahangog Twin Falls, Ingkumhan Falls and Dam-again Falls. These waterfalls are said to be the top tourist attractions in the town of Dimiao, Bohol. But, during my visit I was only granted a chance to visit Ingkumhan Falls and Pahangog Falls.
Ingkumhan Falls is a two tiered waterfall located in Brgy. Bauhugan, Dimiao, Bohol. The first tier possesses a magical underwater cave and has a wide catching basin where one can enjoy swimming. The other tier requires you to trek for about 10-15 minutes. Upon making it in the second tier, it looks so serene, maybe because only few who dares to go to the second tier because of its challenging trail. It doesn’t bear a deep and wide catching basin just like the first tier.
Pahangog Twin Falls
Pahangog Twin Falls is one of those waterfalls that you’d probably love to flirt to its natural beauty, perhaps because it looks massive and stunning. This waterfall is said to be one of the tallest twin falls in the entire Island of Bohol. Proudly standing at the height of approximately 90 feet. Moreover, There are also stunning caverns located near the falls, which earns it more interesting.
The Town Of Loon, Bohol – Visiting the undiscovered Naporacay Beach.
I’ve been to this town several times, and I’ve explored most of their tourist spots. But, during my birthday backpacking trip, I decided to still drop by to this town, as I have friends who are from here. In fact, staying in this town is like home. I can even stay here for a week without spending money because my friends here are very accommodating and kind. Perchance this is what Boholano’s are known for. I stayed a night here before travelling back to Cebu on the following day.
Naporacay Beach or Napo Beach
Naporacay beach or Napo beach is said to be just like a normal beach for many Loonanon’s because this beach has long been existed in their town and hasn’t been commercialized. It is still left in its innate state and only the locals who enjoyed this beach. It is where they normally spend Sunday with their family and friends.

Besides, most tourists prefer Tagbilaran as their point of entry, since it is located close to Panglao Island where most travelers choose to stay. Apart from that, Tagbilaran is the Capital City of Bohol, this is where most of the Hotels, Travel Agencies, Restaurants and Cafe’s located. Apart from fare is cheaper from Cebu to Tubigon, travel time is only more than an hour via Fast Cat, Star Craft and Weesam Express bound for Tubigon.
Note: This is the best option to take if you ever follow my itinerary for my 3 days and 2 nights backpacking trip.
From Larena, Siquijor to Tagbilaran City:
Yes, it is very possible to get to Bohol from Siquijor, especially if you’re backpacking around the neighboring Islands in the Central Visayas. The Lite Shipping Corporation has multiple departures weekly from Larena, Siquijor to Tagbilaran City. The travel time is around 4 hours.
