Truly, the town of Loon, Bohol is blessed with natural scenery that can pacify every weary soul. I’ve been in this town for the second time, and every time I traipse my feet here, I constantly find something new and interesting. In fact, there’s a newly found gem in Loon, Bohol, which is the magical existence of Coral Garden in Brgy. Tangnan. And the newly favorite spot of many is the 99 Hugot Lines of Tajang Pass causeway in Loon Bohol, which showcase the overflowing emotions of Loonanon’s or hugot (A slang word refers to drawing emotions from somewhere deep within).
A year ago, I had my memorable sojourn because aside from seeing their stunning waterfalls and spring; I experienced a warm welcomed and hospitality of Loonanon’s, since I prefer to have a home stay experience. And on my second visit, I nevertheless choose to do home stay, which is the same family who adopted me last year. Thus, my deepest gratitude to the Miranda Family in Napo, Loon for welcoming me into their family and home.
On my second visit in Napo, Loon, It was actually my last destination during my birthday backpacking around Bohol. I began my adventure in the peaceful town of Alicia, Bohol to climb to the Alicia Panoramic Park or locally known as Binabaje Hills. I had my second stop in the town of Candijay, Bohol to visit the unassuming beauty of Cadapdapan Rice Terraces, Can-umantad falls and take a plunge in the mysterious and enticing water of Canawa Cold Spring. My third stop was in the town of Anda, Bohol where I enjoyed the stunning sunrise on Quinale Beach, cliff jumping in the Cabagnow Cave pool and take a brisk dip in the Combento Cave Pool. My fourth stop was in the town of Dimiao, Bohol to chase their beautiful waterfalls. I was able to travel to the enticing natural pool of Ingkumhan Falls and gazing at the majestic beauty of Pahangog Twin Falls. My fifth and my last stopover was in Napo, Loon where I had a good rest before heading back to Cebu City.
I arrived in Napo, Loon together with my good friends, Aloysius, Juliet and Marvie at around 7:00 PM. We had our dinner in Miranda’s family and took in a bottle of beer while singing our heart out, since they have a Karaoke. The excitement comes on the succeeding day, which we had a breakfast on Napo, beach where I’m excited to write about.
Candidly, the town of Loon, Bohol has an astonishing list of white sand beaches. They are peacefully located along the coastline part of the town. The Barangay of Napo, Basdacu, Basdio, Mocpoc, Pantudlan, Looc and Cambaquiz, which offers an enticing turquoise waters and sandy beach. On the other hand, these beaches are being disregarded by many and I don’t know why. Probably because it was unknown to many, and these white sand beaches are exclusively enjoyed by many locals who are staying in the said area.
One of these disregard beaches in the town of Loon, is Napo beach. It is located in Brgy. Napo that’s why many locals called it Napo beach. It is alleged to be the playground of many local kids, and many residents of the Napo, Loon have been enjoying this beach since then. Unknown to many, this town suffered a lot during the 2013 quake that hit Bohol and the nearby Island of Cebu. Actually, one of the biggest and the oldest churches in the Philippines was actually sited in this town. But, during the earthquake in October 15, 2013, the church structures and walls were falling down and smashed into pieces.
I’ve heard a bunch of stories of survival during this immense atrocious event, as I had a chance to stay with Miranda’s family during my first visit to this town on April 2017. And before the earthquake; Napo beach was actually closed enough to the community, but after the earthquake, the water moves farther and created a wide sandy bed that is perfect for family picnics.
Truly, Napo beach is left unnoticed. If only this beach would be conserved and cleaned, since I’ve seen plastic garbage around, it can rival to other famous beaches in the Philippines and perhaps in the world. Personally, I can see that Napo beach has a potential of becoming a world class beach, if this will be taken charge of. But anyhow, the fact that Napo beach has provided us a playground during our visit, we truly have enjoyed. Apart from walking around its sandy bed, we also swim in its turquoise waters. Some part of the beach has a perfect powdery sand, and some portion of it is filled with sea moss and sea weeds.
The famous swimming area is actually in Tulay – a local term for a bridge, but when you get close to this place, it looks like a sturdy sea wall and a road that gives an access to the vehicles. This spot also offers a perfect place to gaze to the stunning view when the sun rest below the horizon.
What I also love about the Napo beach during our visit was the scattered fishing boat floating around the ocean, which makes it a perfect backdrop for our photographs. We had our morning pictorial, since the sun was up and the weather was great. We found and experience a paradise in Napo beach, even though its innate beauty is being unnoticed. After truly enjoying the undiscovered and disregarded beauty of Napo beach, my friends and I decided to depart and we set foot on the historical site of Loon, Bohol, which is the Inang-angan stairway since it is just a stone’s throw from Napo beach.
The Inang – angan has an estimated 6 meters wide and has a total of of (5) five flights with 212 steps. And what makes this historical site amazing is that, the stairway was made of limestone blocks and was constructed from 1847 to 1849 by the Boholanos to allow quicker and more efficient trading of services between the people of Moto and Napo. In 2010, Inang-angan was declared as the National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum.
