Can-Umantad Falls: Visiting The Iconic Natural Scenery Of Candijay, Bohol

After fully enjoying the unassuming beauty of Cadapdapan Rice Terraces, we keep on our journey going to the Can-umantad Falls. The road leading to the falls is really jouncy, we even go down from the motorcycle because the road has an uneven surface. Some parts of the road owned a small flume, which has been created because of the stream since it was raining a day before our sojourn. But, some part of the road are also concreted, especially the road that used to be unpaved and most of the visitors really have to walk downwards to the Falls. But during our visit, it was already concreted up to the parking area.

But just before we almost got to the Falls, the beauty of Can-Umantad Falls is flaunting like as if trying to entice us from afar. It is located just below the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces, which has been recognized as the most iconic natural attractions in Candijay, Bohol. This waterfall was also distinguished as the tallest waterfalls in the entire Island of Bohol. Proudly standing at the height of 60 feet and looks majestic at its own time when the rain pour. The water that flows to the Can-Umantad Falls is coming from Cadapdapan River that provides irrigation to the rice terraces nested above the falls before flowing downstream.

During our visit, the waterfall really looks majestic because it was raining a day before our sojourn. We were lucky enough during our visit as the waterfalls can really appear like a tiny waterfall during summer, especially if it’s not raining at all. Right after we parked the motorcycle, our driver helps us to come close to the waterfalls. We trek down until we got to the waterfalls. There was a newly built bridge that help us cross to the other side and went straight to the waterfalls. I can really feel the sturdy water coming from above as it reaches the catching basin with a thundering sound.

The cooling mist that peacefully arriving on my surface has rendered me a refreshing feeling. It brought back my colorful childhood memories, where I used to dance and play while the rain pours. I can’t seem to stop gazing at its beauty from its slender brink where the water started to go down and how it was naturally becoming wide before reaching the catching basin.

Seeing the waterfalls from above, It actually drops down first to the natural elevated structure, then sturdily flows down to the catching basin. I was straining to get closer to the waterfalls, as I have seen people do it, but I wasn’t in the mood of dousing myself in the water that time. Probably because the water was not coming out like a rich blue-green that time since it was raining hard a day before our visit.

I actually went closer to the waterfalls, but only standing on the viewing deck. I was trying to take good photos of the waterfalls, but the struggle that time was real because of the cooling mist that keep touching my surface, which makes me really wet, although, I didn’t get down to swim. There were also cottages around the waterfalls, which earns it a perfect place to have a picnic by the waterfalls.

Truly, Can-Umantad Falls is something that Bohol can really be proud of aside from their famous Chocolate Hills and Adorable Tarsier. Right after we got good photos, we decided to depart and went straight to another natural Gem of Candijay, Bohol, which is the magical beauty of Canawa Cold Spring.

  1. That Falls look really beautiful! I would love to see a fall like up close. I have only been to Niagara Falls which is on whole another level. But this kind of falls always make me want to visit those!! Still haven’t such luck.

  2. I’ve always wanted to visit Bohol but never get the chance to do so. Hopefully, in one of our vacations we could jump into one of those Fast Cat. Ah the beauty of Visayas!

  3. I knew there were a lot of beautiful places to see in Bohol aside from the usual tourist spots included in the usual country tour so this is such a lovely list of places I need to see when I visit again. The falls does look lovely. Good thing the weather was great when you visited.

  4. Another waterfall chased down huh! This looks like a great place to unwind, with a beer in hand and misty spray of the falls for company. I enjoyed the photographs quite a bit.

  5. I like the way you started with the blog and break down every single detail. Also I loved how you experimented with long exposure and results were incredible.

  6. I did not know that Bohol has this treasure hidden in Candijay! We have a house in Bohol and I have visited the place many times. But I did not have the chance to see this place. I would love to see this! It is so beautiful! I suddenly miss the waterfalls in Iligan City!

  7. Hi, let me congratulate you for taking so much pain to assemble the itinerary and expenses for this destination. I hope that more travelers start booking their trips after consulting your website. This kind of dedication is rare actually and I wish you all the luck in the world.

  8. Wow! Another paradise that is yet to be discovered by so many including me. I have a thing for waterfalls. They seems to be very magical and mysterious. How i wish i could travel like you into places like that. Superb!

  9. The Can-Umantad Falls is beautiful. The amount of water going over the falls is impressive so I guess the recent rains were good. I like the way the narrow water stream from the top cascades over the base. If I get to the Philippines, I will have to get to Bohol to see this wonder.

  10. Waterfalls are always magical. But when it has rained and the falls are brimming the visual treat is really on a divine plane. That is the case with Can-umantad Falls. It looks absolutely breathtaking. Another thing that you mentioned is about the mist raised by the spray of the water. This gives a whole mystical look to the falls.

  11. I absolutely love chasing waterfalls as they are so mesmerizing and beautiful. I can imagine the mist from the waterfall making it difficult to snap photos. I hope it didn’t get your lens wet! I would also love to picnic and relax in one of the cottages around the waterfalls 🙂

  12. Such beautiful waterfalls, I especially love big waterfalls with a big pool at the end. It is so cool.I have heard so much about Bohol, would love to visit and check out all of the waterfalls you have posted about 😀

  13. Breathtaking view. Always a pleasure to go through your travel posts. Detailed and informative with beautiful pictures to get a sneak peek of the location. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
