Rito’s Farm: A Perfect Haven For Your Tiring Feet

While on the road as we travel back to Manticao from Mambuntan Falls in Naawan. We were at the back of Mitsubishi Strada, since we were all wet. We all have seen the fogs covering the road and the mountain range of Naawan while enjoying the jouncy ride. In the middle of our busy chit-chat, one of Aloysius friends suggested to drop by at the fish farm to experience fish spa. I instantly agree with the suggestion and made me really excited.

True enough, we made it to the fish farm. The place wasn’t really that big and wide, but they have fish ponds, which is the perfect place for fishing and of course a perfect paradise for the tiring feet to experience fish spa. We immediately took off our sleepers and wash our feet before we can actually soak our feet in the concreted tub with hundreds of fish. I think of my very first fish spa experienced in Siquijor, it was really great and relaxing. At the back of my mind, I figure out how would I react this time since my first spa experience was 5 years ago. As I was nearly to soak my feet, I heard the vociferating laugh on the other tub. It was Aloysius brothers and his friends as they didn’t stop laughing every time they feel that tickling feeling.

At that time, I was also smiling while taking heed to them, thinking that it may be their first time as I was behaving the same thing before during my first spa experience. And so I slowly gather some courage to soak my feet in the tub full of small fish in a cold water, probably because it was raining that time and that makes the water really cold. At first, I feel so uncomfortable. Then the struggle begins, every time I feel that tickling feeling, I wanted to just pull out my feet and just wear my slippers back and walk away. I don’t know how I feel that moment, I thought that I won’t have to adjust as I had experienced it before, only I still behave like it was my first time again.

As we continue soaking our feet in the tub with hundreds of fish, we slowly experience the relaxing feeling. I could just douse my feet for an hour and probably would fall into a deep slumber. The moment I was used to to the tickling feeling made by the small fishes, I transferred to the other tub that has a medium size fish. At first, it was scary, I was imagining that the fish might eat my whole feet. But as I continue soaking my feet, I feel so relaxed and I genuinely have enjoyed it.

While enjoying my fish spa moment, a lady wearing boots is coming closer to us as we are just facing near the other ponds. She was feeding the freshwater bullhead catfish and other fishes in the ponds. I was given a chance to speak to her and she told me that she was working with South East Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) in Guimaras, which is an organization that is responsible for Development of breeding and Hatchery. After her long service with SEAFDEC, she decided to begin her own backyard fish farming and that’s where Rito’s Farm started.

The Rito’s Farm is a perfect place for bonding and a great spot to unwind with family, friends, and your special someone while enjoying fish catching activity and foot spa. You can go fishing in the pond and you can cook them as well, since their cottages are designed for comfort and ease for fishing and dining. You will certainly enjoy the ambiance of farm life without hurting your pocket.

The Rito Farm is located at Purok 7 A, Brgy Poblacion, Naawan, Misamis Oriental. You can as well check their FB page for the location map.

  1. This looks like a great experience, but I am always a bit skeptical and afraid of batterer when soaking your feet in those fish tubes. Did you experienced any problems afterwards? Good to know it only costs Php 50.00 for one hour though =)

  2. Looks like a fun way to spend an afternoon at Rito’s Farm! Glad you enjoyed it!

I’ve tried fish spas only twice in my life. Thanks goodness I’m not as ticklish as some people but I must say it still takes some getting used to. Also, good to hear that owner must really know what she’s doing since she used to work for a reputable organization in Guimaras.

  3. This fish farm is fantastic. I have wanted to do this for such a long time, but here in Romania, this is not popular at all. Rito’s fish farm is a good example of this tradition and definitely a place where I’d go for a genuine experience. Thanks for sharing this awesome place with us.

  5. I saw small pools of that when I visited Bangkok. Didn’t have time to try it. I am sure it is way better to go to a spa-farm and in a relaxing environment. I love that you include the travel tips and suggested itinerary. 🙂

  7. I vaguely remember seeing these tickling feet spas in South Korea, but I never tried them. This, however, seems much more authentic. Looks a fascinating and stress-busting experience.

  8. As usual, your itinerary is wonderful. The farm looks very peaceful and green. However, not sure if I would go for the fish spa. I am not able to bear the thought of any animal/insect/amphibian crawling on me 🙂 leave apart giving me a spa 🙂

  9. Great way to spend a relaxing time. But I am not sure if soaking ones feet in that tub filled with fish can harm them. I am sure it doesn’t do them any good. They deserve a better place. However I don’t deny that it must have been a pleasing experience with the fish bumping into your feet intermittently.

  10. What a lovely place and location, looks like a nice relaxing day was spent here. Never tried this yet. Maybe an experience to add to my list. Hope the fish don’t bite lol.

  11. I’ve always wanted to try this. A part of me is scared at the thought of fish nibbling your feet. Another part of me though is intrigued and I’ve never heard anything bad about it so it must be fun. Cebu is a little too far for me to try this but I will watch out for a similar experience soon.

  12. The location looks stunning! Love finding places such as this one while I’m traveling! I don’t know if I’d be daring enough to try the fish spa – I’m quite ticklish. It would be an experience, that I’m sure! Great post x

  13. The farm in itself looks so inviting and perfect place to spend some quiet time with closed ones, but the fish spa I doubt, somehow I have never had the courage to do so, I always find it exciting, but still the idea of dipping my feet in a tank full of fishes is just not my idea of relaxation

  14. Oh, you went to a fish spa. That is so cool! I have been to one a couple of times but I have never managed to get to the point where it was relaxing. I was more like your friends who couldn’t stop laughing and giggling, since I could never get used to that tickling feeling.

  15. I have never tried the fish spa. Probably should be the thing that would help the tired feet. I walk a lot and getting proper rest for foot is important for me.
